BBC's 500 Words Competition!

BBC's 500 words competition is finally here again! This is a great opportunity to launch your successful writing career. I entered last year, with a story about an invisible leopard who wreaks havoc wherever he goes, and only one person can see him. I will tell you more about this competition in a moment.
At the moment only the United Kingdom can enter, and there is two categories. 5-9 and 10-13. I am in the 10-13 category, because I am 11.

You have 500 words to write a story. Here is the 2016 winning story for the 10-13 category: e-courtroom.com by Ned Marshall (opens in new tab) I read this story, and it deserved to win.

If you win gold, you get Chris Evans' height in books, silver is the Duchess of Cornwall's height, and bronze is your own height. Gold also wins 500 books for their school, and a surprise illustration of their story by Chris Riddell.

The judges are Francesca Simon, Malorie Blackman, Frank Cottrell Boyce and Charlie Higson, as well as 8000 teachers and librarians who volunteered. You can volunteer to be a judge on the website here if you are a teacher or librarian: become a judge

The closing date is 7:00 pm on Thursday 23rd February 2017.

You can only submit one story, and if you submit two, then the first one submitted will be judged, and they have to be done in English. They will announce the top 50 in May 2017.
