I found this website last year, and have been writing stories on it since. It's brilliant for writing Picture Books, Poems and Longform books. It's a really handy tool for budding writers!
Storybird is a website where you can set up a profile (no age restrictions) and write stories inspired by different artists who post their artwork on the website. You go into Create, and then it generates new artwork, and to use it you click on the blue lightning bolt in the far right corner of the image. There is three options, Poem, Longform or Picture Book. A Longform book is one with chapters, a Picture Book has a picture on each page, and a small amount of text, and a Poem is a single image, and it gives you a selection of words round the side to use, and you have to be creative and make a sentence or two to go on the image. In the bottom bar when you make a poem, you can choose the colour of your words, so that it compliments the image's colour.
This website is a form of social media, and as well as children's books there is also adult books, so I would recommend getting your parent's permission before you sign up.
However, it is a great way to share you writing with others. This is the way some authors started out, so this could be the beginning of your career!
When you write a book, if you have a regular account, then you will have to wait about a month for your story to be moderated. Poems are posted straight away because Storybird picks the words you use. This is only because people can write inappropriate things, and if there wasn't moderation then people could write anything.
To create a new chapter in longform, you have to complete one chapter, and then when you go into your profile, underneath the book title it will say 'start chapter...' and you click on that to make a new chapter.
People can 'heart' your poems, books and picture books, and can comment as well. I don't know whether you can turn off commenting or not. Storybird users are normally quite nice, but if you see someone not being nice you should report them immediately, and do not reply if it is on your book. It could just make you feel even worse if they reply back again.
If you upgrade to a membership account, your stories will be on the priority list, and will be modified in 24-48 hours instead of a month.
So I hope you can create an account on Storybird, and if you do leave me the link so I can read your brilliant books that you have been creating.
Thank you for reading and I hope I'll see you again soon on my blog! 😄
